Best practice: the Hôtel Régent Petite France has entered into a partnership with the Sapocycle association!
SapoCycle is the first non-profit organization in Europe to collect discarded hotel soaps and transform them into life-saving products. The soaps are recycled by people with disabilities and then distributed to improve the sanitary conditions of families in need. The association was set up in 2018 in Mulhouse by seven founding members and is going from strength to strength.
SapoCycle in figures:
- 308 participating hotels
- 35,317 kilos of soap collected
- 233,593 soaps redistributed
Isabelle WEBER, Seminar and Banquet Manager at the Hôtel Régent Petite France, tells us about her establishment's experience.
- How long have you been working with SapoCycle?
Our hotel has been working with SapoCycle since March 2022.
- Why did you decide to become involved with SapoCycle?
We have chosen to commit ourselves to an eco-responsible approach, and given the quantities of soap we throw away, it seemed important to us to recycle this waste.
- What does your involvement with Sapocycle mean in the day-to-day running of your business?
The day-to-day involvement is really quite simple: our chambermaids collect the used soaps and place them in an appropriate container at the end of the day. As soon as the container is full, all we have to do is scan the QR code on it and Cocci, a Sapocycle partner, comes and collects it. You can then request a new container with just a few clicks.
- What have you gained from your involvement with SapoCycle?
This operation raises staff awareness of the need to reduce our carbon footprint, and encourages them to become active in this area. It also gives us the feeling that we're doing something, at our own level of course, to protect the environment.
