The Strasbourg International Tennis Tournament has been committed to an eco-responsible approach since 2010, in order to reduce its carbon footprint as much as possible.
This commitment stems from an in-depth reflection on the positioning of the event beyond its sporting aspect. Considering that an event is a veritable "medium" in its own right, the HOPIS team wished, in addition to sporting values, to convey exemplary environmental and societal values.
The ADEME (Agence de l'Environnement et la Maîtrise de l'Energie - French Environment and Energy Management Agency) was keen to support this approach, and has made the Internationaux de Strasbourg its benchmark in the sporting events category. In addition, the Internationaux de Strasbourg was awarded the label "Développement durable, le sport s'engage" by the CNOSF.
Five carbon audits were carried out, and meticulous work at all levels of the organization produced encouraging results:
- The introduction of a behavioural change dynamic among suppliers, partners, spectators, players and all tournament participants.
- A 30% reduction in carbon emissions since 2010.
